Musket

Initially it was a heavy shot-gun with wick lock. Along with the wick lock a wheel lock was also used. A wheel rubbed against a flint which made a spark. But due to mechanism's high cost and low reliability it didn't gain wide spread. In the end of 17 century a flint lock (where a cock hit the flint) was introduced and put into use. Together with paper cartridge it significantly increased weapon's fire rate.
